How does RAISE-UP address the environmental impact of AI development?

There is no question that AI has a significant environmental footprint. Large data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, contribute to carbon emissions, strain local power grids, generate electronic waste, and require intensive mining of rare minerals. If unmanaged, these impacts could worsen climate change, increase water pollution, and harm local communities.

RAISE-UP believes AI should be developed safely and responsibly, which includes minimizing its environmental impact as much as possible. That means supporting strong environmental protections and smart regulations to protect people and communities. Right now, those safeguards are not keeping pace with the scale of AI expansion, and without change, development risks continuing in environmentally harmful ways.

At the same time, AI can be part of the solution. It can be used to design more energy-efficient AI systems, optimize data center cooling and electricity use, accelerate clean energy innovation, improve grid management, reduce waste, strengthen climate modeling while producing millions of jobs that enhance human flouring. RAISE-UP calls for AI to be guided not just by speed and profit, but by sustainability and the common good.

RAISE-UP is in active development. We are seeking board members and founding partners to launch our 2026 pilot program. Contact us to learn more.

This website is also under construction.

The purpose of RAISE-UP is to harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence to enable all people to flourish. We do this by empowering individuals and communities to make informed and challenging choices that will shape their futures.
