If AI is supposed to create jobs, why do we still need the AI Love Enough Pledge?

 

RAISE-UP fully agrees that AI has the potential to help workers do their jobs and create new opportunities for everyone. Used responsibly, AI can help people work smarter, improve productivity, and open doors to new industries, jobs and ideas.

 

Unfortunately, the current financial incentives push AI developers and corporations to replace workers rather than empower them. Billions of dollars are being invested in automating jobs to increase profits—profits that come from labor savings, not shared prosperity. Companies are making these investments because the potential payoff for a handful of AI companies is trillions of dollars. While AI may temporarily create new roles to integrate or monitor these systems, its ability to quickly learn and perform tasks means many of those jobs will likely disappear as the technology advances.

 

That’s why AI’s goals need to be redirected toward investing in people and their long-term well-being. With inequality at historic levels, RAISE-UP calls for transparency, accountability, and public participation in shaping how AI is used. We must ensure AI drives an economy that works for everyone—not just for shareholders.

 

Alongside good jobs, affordable education, healthcare, and housing are the foundations of a flourishing, people-centered economy. The AI Love Enough Pledge calls on us to harness innovation for these goals, ensuring technology serves humanity, not the other way around.
